It also helps because the consultant almost always has a personal relationship established with the fund manager, which can help in breaking the ice between the fund manager and the investors.

Because of the fund managers being prohibited from soliciting investors it is often a requirement that hedge fund investors rely heavily upon a good hedge fund consultant to help them find business. For this reason, fund managers tend to ensure that the good consultants receive some perks so that they are quick to recommend a particular fund, rather than a competition fund to ensure that the manager is able to see their fund grow as much as possible.

As an investor it is good to work with a hedge fund consultant because you are able to save the time you could otherwise spend investigating a hedge fund that you are not interested in, or that you would not qualify for. As you can imagine many investors prefer to work through a hedge fund consultant rather than only working directly with a fund manager. This also provides the investor with as many options as possible so they can select which funds they are interested in investing in, rather than only having one fund to choose from.
